Adrada de Pirón – Gorges, Spring Water and Village Festivals

The Cañones de los ríos Viejo y Pirón can be accessed from Adrada de Pirón. The two small gorges were carved by the Viejo and Pirón rivers into the limestone areas on the edge of the Sierra Segoviana and are of great scenic, natural and historical interest. Their course runs almost entirely through the municipal areas of Torreiglesias and Losana de Pirón.

Nature and Water

The Arroyo del Valle flows through Adrada de Pirón and passes beneath the road at the edge of the village in the direction of Losana de Pirón.

At the entrance to Adrada de Pirón is the Caño con agua de manantial spring-water fountain. The fountain dates from 1904 and supplies water throughout the year, even during severe periods of drought.

Nature and water, historic buildings and customs held on fixed dates provide different points of focus. These themes can be considered separately when planning your own trip: landscape-related attractions stand alongside local history, while the events have their own timeframe.

Village Character and History

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a Romanesque church, is located on Calle Iglesia.

At the edge of the village in the direction of Losana de Pirón stands the Potro de herrar, a restored structure made of stone and wood with a roof. Animals were shod there in the past; today, the structure is preserved in very good condition.

At an unspecified point in the 15th century, the Castillo de Adrada de Pirón was built by the Herrera family from rubble masonry and dressed stone. At that time, the village belonged to the defensive fortification network of the Kingdom of Castile.

The same overarching area also includes the places Coca, Escobar De Polendos, Fuentemilanos, Tizneros, Santo Domingo de Pirón, Fuenterrebollo, Aldeanueva De La Serrezuela and Corral de Ayllón.

Festivals and Events

The patron-saint celebrations for Nuestra Señora de los Remedios take place in September, although they are celebrated on the last weekend of August.

The local celebrations of Las Candelas and San Blas take place on 2 and 3 February. Las Candelas includes a procession in which the Virgin is carried to the church with a burning candle; the candle is supposed to remain lit until the procession returns there.

The San Isidro festival takes place on 15 May; San Isidro is the patron saint of farmers.

In the 15 years up to 2025, the “La Perla Escondida” festival was held in Adrada de Pirón in August. It brought together art, dance, meditation and gastronomy and addressed life in the so-called España vaciada.
