In Tabanera del Monte, festival traditions, sacred architectural history and mountain landscapes come together. The hiking trail to Pico de La Atalaya runs through the Natura 2000 protected area ZEPA and SCI “Sierra de Guadarrama”. The local association of the Paloteo is particularly close: today, it is performed only in the district of Tabanera del Monte, during the procession to the Mass of the patron saint’s festival in honour of the patron saint San Juan.

When planning accommodation, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered separately. Tabanera del Monte combines different local features: the procession and church, cultural programme and summit do not form a single setting, but rather clearly distinct themes.

Culture and History

The parish church Iglesia parroquial de San Juan Bautista y de la Virgen del Rosario was built in the first half of the 20th century as a replacement for an earlier temple. It combines Gothic, Romanesque and Neoclassical architectural elements. The recovered millstone from the former Molino de La Tabla looks back on almost 300 years of history.

Several museums are also located in the surrounding area. The museum Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Esteban Vicente is situated near Tabanera del Monte. The surrounding area also includes the museum Casa Museo Antonio Machado, the museum Museo Gastronómico de Segovia and the museum Casa del Sol.

Festivals and Activities

The San Juan patron saint’s festival was scheduled to take place from 15 to 21 June 2026. The date provides a clear timeframe for anyone wishing to plan their trip around this festival.

The programme of the XL Semana Cultural 2025 included a traditional family cycling gathering called “Julio de la Rubia”. The programme also included the excursion on the “Santa Cecilia” route, for which an approximate duration of three and a half hours was given. The two formats differ in terms of occasion and timeframe, thereby offering different perspectives on the event programme.

Nature and Mountains

Navahonda and La Flecha are peaks in the vicinity of Tabanera del Monte. Peñalara is also a mountain in the surrounding area. La Mujer Muerta is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Tabanera del Monte. This separate classification makes it possible to distinguish nearby peaks from broader landscape references when planning a trip.

The landscape can therefore be viewed at two scales: the hiking trail connects a named peak with a protected area, while the list of mountains extends the view from the immediate surroundings to a wider regional setting. This creates different spatial reference points for planning, without merging them into a single location.

A multi-purpose sports area is also listed on C/ Las Tramas in Tabanera del Monte.
