In Cerezales del Condado, the public art collection of the Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia includes “Murmullo del tiempo” by Tadanori Yamaguchi. The village thus combines a contemporary cultural focus with sacred architecture, regional traditions and various destinations in the wider area.
Culture and history
The Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia, or FCAYC for short, is a venue for contemporary art and culture, ethnography and the communication of diverse knowledge in a rural setting. Exhibitions and concerts are held there. For cultural impressions, exhibitions, music, ethnography and architecture can therefore be considered as distinct areas of focus.
The church in Cerezales del Condado, dedicated to San Juan Bautista, has Renaissance-style vaults, columns and arches. The same church also contains five Baroque altarpieces. The Santo Cristo Chapel, dating from the early 20th century, provides a different historical accent.
River and regional themes
On the Porma River, Cerezales is a trout-fishing area. The Feria Carea promotes awareness and appreciation of the perro carea, also known as the perro leonés de pastor, a dog breed native to the region.
The Feria Carea also supports local and regional food producers and promotes the quality and diversity of products from the region. For your planning, the river and fishing, exploring a native dog breed, and regional food can be presented as separate themes alongside one another.
Regional surroundings
In the wider regional surroundings of Cerezales del Condado is Torreón de La Vecilla, a castle. Casa Botines, a palace, and the Museo de León, a museum, are also located in this wider regional area.
Other destinations in the regional surroundings include Polvoredo, a mountain; Cueva de Valporquero, a cave; Peña Corada, a peak; and Jardines De Morano, a garden. The Monastery of San Pedro de Eslonza is also located near Cerezales del Condado.
The range from castle, palace and museum to mountain, cave, peak and garden allows for a clear comparison of cultural and landscape themes. This means you can take different types of discoveries into account when planning your days without reducing the village to a single focus.
Different areas of focus
For planning your days, the themes described can be organised according to their character: cultural offerings and sacred architecture form a different focus from the river and fishing; regional events and food, in turn, add their own accents. Destinations in the wider surroundings complement this selection with various types of sites and landscapes. Those combining several interests can choose the order according to the desired alternation between culture, regional themes and landscapes. This keeps the selection oriented towards the existing areas of focus without combining them into a single activity.
