Viliella: Trails, Sant Sebastià and Historic Traces

The sixth stage of the Camí dels Bons Homes leads from Viliella to Porta. The route is listed as 23.5 km long, with a duration of 6 hr 30 min. A hiking route with a specified length and duration can be planned more effectively for the relevant hiking day if current trail conditions are checked before setting off. Hiking and routes

The route begins at the Sant Sebastià church in Viliella, reaches the GR 107 after 1.4 km and then continues northwards. After reaching the GR 107, the route continues in a northerly direction.

The “Itinerari conscient 8: L’ànima del granit: Meditació amb els elements de la natura” route also begins in Viliella. The route offers a distinct focus alongside the Camí dels Bons Homes stage; both begin in Viliella, but have different names and do not refer to the same route designation. Church and history

The parish church of Viliella is called Sant Sebastià and was formerly known as Sant Martí. In the 10th century, it was owned by Ripoll Monastery as Sant Sebastià. The small church is a site of historical and cultural interest, combining its current function as a parish church with its former name and medieval monastic ownership. The former name Sant Martí is part of the history of the parish church; ownership by Ripoll is limited to the 10th century. The castle, or Rock of Viliella, is also part of Viliella’s history. The structure already existed in the 13th century. In 1305, it was owned by Arnau Despuig, and in 1355 by Jaume Cadell. The two ownership records belong to different points in time and continue the history of the rock across several decades of the Middle Ages. The rock therefore stands alongside the parish church as another historic structure in Viliella.

Landscape

Viliella lies to the right of the Vall de la Llosa. The Torrent de Viliella flows into the Riu de la Llosa from the right. The landscape also includes the hillside setting: Viliella lies on a slope formed by the terminal moraine of a former glacier. The valley, watercourse and geologically shaped slope define the spatial position of the village and connect the watercourse, valley and glacial landform in a clearly structured landscape. Vall de la Llosa, Torrent de Viliella and Riu de la Llosa form the topographical reference points around Viliella.
