Discover Estamariu – Churches, Trails and Holiday Apartment
The village centre of Estamariu is situated on elevated ground above the Urgellet plain. The municipality of Estamariu encompasses the entire valley of the Arenes stream. A winding local road branches off from the N-260, leading to Estamariu and continuing in a north-easterly direction to Bescaran.
These geographical details already give Estamariu a clearly structured character: the elevated village centre, the valley of the Arenes stream and the route of the local road represent different perspectives on the same municipality.
Landscape and Trails
If you choose the hiking route from Estamariu to Bescaran, it begins at the Romanesque church of Sant Vicenç d'Estamariu. The route offers spectacular views of Bescaran, Estamariu and, in particular, the Urgellet plain. The Mirador de la carretera d'Estamariu viewpoint is located within the municipality of Estamariu. A short, interesting path to the Molí d'Estamariu mill leads north-east of the village.
The route to Bescaran connects a starting point at a Romanesque church with views of several named places and the plain. The path to the mill, on the other hand, is explicitly described as short and leads north-east of the village. The Mirador complements these destinations as a separate viewpoint within the municipality.
The road from the N-260 leads to Estamariu and continues north-east to Bescaran; the path to the mill is also located north-east of the village. The Urgellet plain is highlighted as a particularly prominent part of the views along the hiking route.
The route references mentioned lead from the N-260 through the elevated village centre into the municipality and onwards to Bescaran. Along the hiking route, the Romanesque church marks the starting point, while the Mirador and the path to the mill mark separate destinations in the surroundings of Estamariu. This keeps both the longer connection to Bescaran and the short north-easterly path to the mill recognisable as distinct route details.
Culture and History
The church of Sant Vicenç d'Estamariu was built around the year 1040. The murals of Sant Vicenç d'Estamariu were conserved and restored in two phases between 2003 and 2007. Santa Cecília is the parish church of Estamariu and dates from the 17th century. The remains of the former monastery of Sant Vicenç de Pinsent are located within the municipality of Estamariu; its church was built inside a cave.
At Sant Vicenç de Pinsent, this unusual structural detail is also part of the historical record: the church of the former monastery was built inside a cave.

The Festa Major d'Estamariu includes a communal dinner in the village's main square. In Estamariu, 22 January, the feast day of Sant Vicenç, and 22 November, the feast day of Santa Cecília, are local festivals.
