Culture and History

Bellvís carries its history in tangible places: the parish church of Bellvís has a cambril built for the veneration of the Mare de Déu de les Sogues. The neoclassical Església de l'Assumpció, whose construction began in 1804 and was completed in 1848, is visited in Bellvís together with neoclassical manor houses as stops along a route.

The Antic Santuari-Convent de les Sogues was built near El Miracle on the Camí de Balaguer; stones from the old Castell de Sagàs were used in its construction. El Miracle is a chapel on the Camí de Balaguer associated with the miracle of the Mare de Déu de les Sogues. A stone pilaret has stood there for eight centuries, about a hundred paces from El Miracle. It marks the place of the traditional conversation between Joan Amorós and the Mare de Déu de les Sogues. According to the tradition of Bellvís, pilgrimages to the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de les Sogues took place from 1547 onwards, with people from 40 municipalities taking part.

The Firals also draw on a local tradition. The nighttime performance of the Anella de Cal Bufalà fills the squares and streets of Bellvís and is the highlight of the Firals. At the 29th edition of the Firals in Bellvís and Els Arcs, the legend of the Anella de Cal Bufalà was recreated over three days with activities, traditions and performances. Water and Routes

Around 1862, water reached the fields of Bellvís via the Canals d'Urgell, which had previously been cultivated without irrigation. The historic Carrilet railway is part of the region's transport history; it connected Bellvís with Mollerussa, El Palau d'Anglesola, El Poal, Térmens, Menàrguens, Vallfogona de Balaguer and Balaguer.

The Tossal de les Sogues is a viewpoint between Bellvís and Els Arcs. Between the same two places, the Camí dels Arcs is designated as a nature, water and route resource. Paths lead from the town towards Els Arcs, El Poal and Vilanova de la Barca; Bellvís is connected to the A2 via the LV-3311. For walking routes and cycling routes, current route conditions and traffic information are among the points that should be checked before setting out.

The route “From Linyola to El Poal, El Palau d’Anglesola, and Bellvís” is suitable for touring bikes with treaded tyres. A 40 km driving route in Bellvís passes through the themes of nature, irrigated agriculture and cultural heritage.
