Discover Cellers – Culture, Caves and Trails by the Reservoir

The parish church of Sant Joan Baptista de Cellers is the parish church of the village; its interior frescoes were created by Josep Minguell.

Culture

The church was completely rebuilt in the 18th century and subsequently reconsecrated as Sant Joan Baptista. Its frescoes use religious symbolism from the folk culture of the Pyrenees. Access to the interior is possible after requesting an access code via a QR code on the entrance door.

The Festa Major de Cellers is celebrated in the municipality of Castell de Mur as its second main festival.

Water and Caves

Cova-Caiac includes both a complete kayaking section and a complete cave section. The kayaking part begins at the jetty of Hotel Terradets and covers 2.5 kilometres by kayak to the cave. Cova-Caiac combines kayaking with a walking section around the Cellers Reservoir and Cova dels Muricecs and is designed as a half-day experience.

Cova dels Muricecs can be visited from 15 October to 15 May exclusively as part of guided tours. It is an archaeological site and habitat for a significant bat colony.

The combination of a water route and a cave visit gives the experience two clearly distinguishable sections: first, the kayaking section leads to the cave, followed by the walking section around the reservoir and Cova dels Muricecs. During the stated period, the cave itself can only be visited as part of guided tours.

Trails

The 3.3-kilometre circular trail Rodeando Terradets passes the village of Cellers and Cellers-Llimiana railway station. Part of the trail is accessible to people with reduced mobility. The Rodeando Terradets trail features interpretive signage about the cultural and natural heritage.

The Barranc de Moro lies between the village of Cellers and Cellers-Llimiana railway station. The Terradets section of the Ruta dels Llacs is a 5.0-kilometre flat trail between the C-13 road and the Terradets Reservoir and passes through the Microrreserva de Terradets.

The circular trail Camino del Barranc del Bosc y Roca Regina begins and ends at Hotel Terradets, which is located directly beside the Terradets Reservoir. Here, this reservoir is also known as the Cellers Reservoir.

The trails mentioned also differ in their layout and reference points: Rodeando Terradets is a circular trail, the Ruta dels Llacs has a named Terradets section between the road and the water, and the Camino del Barranc del Bosc y Roca Regina returns to its starting point at Hotel Terradets.

Nature

At the end of the Terradets Reservoir, a wetland has formed from large quantities of sediment resulting from the erosion of the gorges of the Conca de Tremp. Reeds and riparian forests have spread along the shores of the reservoir; they attract a species-rich fauna community.

The waterside landscape is therefore shaped by more than just the open surface of the lake.
