Tremp: Historic Centre and Geology

In the historic centre of Tremp, Plaça de la Creu is the central reference point; the Ajuntament de Tremp and the Basílica Mare de Déu de Valldeflors are located there. Three towers remain from the former city wall: the Torre de la Sagristia, the Torre del Mingo and the Torre dels Pares.

Culture
The Basílica de Valldeflors is a single-nave church with side chapels. Its present building was initially constructed between 1638 and 1647.
The Casal Manyanet is the birthplace of Josep Manyanet i Vives, who was born in Tremp on 7 January 1833. The building houses a permanent exhibition about his biography.
The Creu de terme is a monumental stone cross in the Gothic style and was erected in 1638. The Pont de Sant Jaume dates from the 15th century, has Romanesque origins and was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century.
The former Adoberies de la Pell tanneries are located beside the Barranc de la Font Vella in Tremp and have been restored for visits. A one-kilometre nature trail connects the Adoberies de la Pell with the Romanesque Pont de Sant Jaume.
Geology and Landscape
The Pirineus Geological Open Museum comprises a Jardí de les Roques in Parc del Barranc del Joncar and an Avinguda dels Temps Geològics on Passeig de Pompeu Fabra.
Its audio guide app covers both exhibition routes in three languages and provides explanations of 40 points as well as more than 170 images.
The palaeontological sites of Els Nerets (Vilamitjana-1) and Suterranya are located within the municipality of Tremp. In 2014, the Government of Catalonia classified them as cultural assets of national interest in the category of palaeontological zone.
The Centre d'Interpretació dels Sòls dels Pirineus (CISP) has a permanent exhibition with a collection of available soil monoliths. Parc del Pinell is a five-hectare green space in Tremp, in the area known as Pedra Santa.
Trails, Festivals and Events
The extensive municipality of Tremp has several easy hiking trails. These include the Clot de Moles route to the settlement of Llabusta and Vilamitjana.
The Ball del Contrapàs is performed on 17 January, the feast day of Saint Anthony the Abbot, in Plaça Francesc Pujol. The Fira Pallars Terra de Corder combines a multisectoral spring fair with a gastronomic festival.
The Festa Major de Tremp takes place around 8 September in honour of the Mare de Déu de Valldeflors. Nits a la Fresca is a summer cultural event series in Tremp with a history of more than 30 years.
Visits and Travel
A guided tour of Tremp takes visitors through the streets of the historic centre, includes admission to the Epicentre on the same day and requires advance reservation.
The Centre de Visitants Epicentre houses Tremp's tourist office; it provides information about the municipality and the entire comarca.
Tremp has a railway station where the RL2 line between Lleida and La Pobla de Segur stops.
