Discover Golmés: Sant Salvador, Salt del Duran and Festa de les Cassoles

In the old town of Golmés stands the present-day Sant Salvador church, a neoclassical building constructed in the 18th century. The Església Parroquial de Sant Salvador is also a listed heritage building of the municipality of Golmés and has been included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

Culture and history

The Església Parroquial de Sant Salvador has three naves. The central nave and the corresponding section of the transept are higher and wider. In the centre of the church is a dome that externally takes the form of a drum renewed in brick.

The Creu de terme of Golmés is a Latin cross with angular arms set at right angles. The present-day Creu de terme was donated in 1969 by the association “Fills i amics de Golmés” and replaced a cross destroyed in 1936. The present-day Creu de terme was restored in 1994.

The monument commemorating the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Carta de població recalls the document that granted the inhabitants of Golmés rights and obligations. The monument also addresses the provision in the document under which the inhabitants were free to dispose of the town and its territory.

Landscape

On the edge of the municipality of Golmés lies the Salt del Duran, a 4.5-metre-high waterfall on the third Sèquia of the Canal d’Urgell. The Font del Salt del Duran spring is located in a shady hollow surrounded by trees beside the Salt del Duran.

Routes and events

The Gravel centro: Pla d’Urgell route is a 103-kilometre circular route starting and finishing at Estany d'Ivars i Vila-sana. In its final section, the route leaves the canal and connects Vilanova de Bellpuig and Golmés.

The Trobada de Vehicles Clàssics of Golmés is intended for vehicles that are more than 25 years old and in good condition. The 10th Trobada de Vehicles Clàssics de Golmés was scheduled for Sunday, 7 June.

Festivals and local cuisine

The Festa de les Cassoles includes preparing the cassoles on the grounds of Parc del Centenari. In 2025, the Festa de les Cassoles reached its 38th edition. The approximately 37th Festa de les Cassoles took place in 2025 with the preparation, a competition and a communal lunch centred around the traditional cassola dish.
