Landscape along the Segre
The area of Pont de Bar lies in Baridà. It extends on both sides of the Segre. In addition to the Segre, three streams flow through the municipality of Pont de Bar. They are called Sant Joan, del Molí and Barguja.
The location on both sides of the Segre and the three tributaries create a landscape shaped by both the main river and smaller waterways.
The route “Itinerari 1: Del Pont de Bar Nou als Arenys” runs along the bank of the Segre and leads through a river landscape. The route is almost five kilometres long. It passes the old medieval Sant Ermengol bridge in Pont de Bar vell at the beginning.
History and Culture
In the High Middle Ages, Castell de Bar was the key centre of this area. Castell de Bar controlled the route. This route connected the counties of Cerdanya and Urgell. At the beginning of the 11th century, a bridge was built over the Segre. It became known as Pont de Bar. Its construction was intended to improve the connection between the counties of Cerdanya and Urgell.
The historical sequence extends from the High Middle Ages to the construction of the bridge at the beginning of the 11th century. Castell de Bar, the connecting route and the Pont de Bar bridge represent three named points of reference within the history between Cerdanya and Urgell.
The Església de Sant Esteve de Bar is designated as a local cultural heritage site of interest. It has a central layout. The church is Baroque. A dome structures its interior.
Trail to Cova de les Encantades
The route is called “PB1 - De Toloriu a la cova de les Encantades”. From the entrance to Cova de les Encantades, it offers views. These views extend over the Vinyoles Valley and Cadí. Along its course, it approaches Cova de les Encantades via a forest trail. The forest trail leads through wooded terrain.
The second trail brings together the name of the cave and the aforementioned landscape features. The Vinyoles Valley and Cadí are visible from the cave entrance, while the forest trail describes the route through wooded terrain.
