The parish church of Yuncler is Santa María Magdalena, a 17th-century church with a 13th-century tower. Its outer walls are made of Toledan masonry and stand on a high plinth of granite blocks.

Culture and architectural history

On 19 October 1788, a fire destroyed the interior of the Santa María Magdalena church, the sacristy, the organ, the roof and various items. Reconstruction began on 4 July 1789; on 11 February 1793, the church was reopened for worship and blessed.

The Fuente de los Cuatro Caños, also known as El Pilar, was restored in 1889; its original age is not known precisely. The Chimenea de Cerámica is the chimney of the Aguilares brickworks and was built in the 1950s or 1960s.

Archaeology and documents

The Las Lunas archaeological site is a Bronze Age archaeological site in a wetland. The remains recovered there are kept at the Museo de Santa Cruz.

At the Las Lunas settlement, two elongated, roughly rectangular houses with apsidal ends were discovered; they were oriented east-west. The settlement’s absolute dating is limited to the period between 870 and 530 BC.

The Fundación Anselmo Lorenzo has consultation areas for its documentary holdings, with publications on anarchism and audiovisual materials. Yuncler also houses part of the CNT’s documentary holdings, including a newspaper library, audiovisual collections, posters and various archive sections.

Festivals and local traditions

The Fiestas del Carmen on 16 and 17 July include masses and processions, bull festivals with traditional encierros and bullfights, sporting and cultural activities, musical performances, popular festivities and fireworks.

San Isidro is celebrated on the Saturday closest to 15 May and includes a mass, a procession, a musical performance and fireworks.

During Los Patios de Mayo, residents decorate their courtyards with crosses on a Saturday in May; a folk group sings and dances jotas there.

Las Puches is a local tradition on 1 November in which groups of residents prepare a sweet-and-savoury dish made from flour, water, sugar, anise and toasted bread.
