Lillo can be discovered through architecture, water, landscapes and traditional crafts. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Martín Obispo is a Late Gothic church from the second half of the 15th century and is located next to Plaza de España. The church has three naves, is divided into five sections and has a shorter chancel attributed to Covarrubias.

Culture

The Convento Franciscano was built in the first half of the 17th century in the Alcantarine style. It has a Herrerian cloister with round arches. The restored remaining part of the Convento Franciscano belongs to Hospedería El Convento, while the church of the Convento Franciscano has been preserved for religious purposes.

The sacred architecture also includes two smaller buildings with distinctive character. The Ermita de San Antón already existed in the 16th century and stands on the summit of Cerro de San Antón. The Ermita de la Vera Cruz is a small chapel with a square floor plan near the Convento Franciscano in the direction of Cerro de San Antón. The Rollo de Lillo is a Gothic-Renaissance monument on six limestone steps dating from the 16th century.

Water and History

The Ruta del Agua is a project that connects nature and history. It highlights Lillo’s cultural heritage, traditional crafts and traditional ecological knowledge related to the water cycle. At the same time, the Ruta del Agua is designated as an audio-guided route.

Nature

The Laguna de La Albardiosa is designated in Lillo as a protected natural area in the ENP Reserva Natural category. Threatened steppe birds occur year-round at Laguna de La Albardiosa, including the stone-curlew, the pin-tailed sandgrouse and the common sandgrouse. The western marsh harrier also uses the area as a hunting ground.

The shores of the Lagunas de El Longar, Altillo Grande and Altillo Chica can be explored on foot. There is a birdwatching station at El Longar lagoon. For personal planning, the focuses on architecture, the water route and nature observation can be clearly considered side by side.

The Mudéjar coffered ceiling from the Ermita del Rosario was recovered and is now located in the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. The Museo del Bordado is dedicated to one of Lillo’s most representative craft traditions. During the celebration of Santa Lucia, a romería takes place at the Ermita de San Antón.
