Nature and Trails

Las Navillas lies in the heart of the Montes de Toledo, in one of Spain’s finest oak forests. As you explore, you can consider the landscape, trail routes and traces of the locality as different facets.

Near Las Navillas, the Cañada Real de Ganados follows the course of the Arroyo Marchés. The native vegetation includes maple trees, ash trees, holm oaks and rebollo oaks. The Cañada Real Segoviana passes through Las Navillas and represents the historical importance of livestock farming in the area. The variety of tree species mentioned characterizes the natural setting in several different nuances.

Mountain biking is practiced in the surroundings of Las Navillas. Along the Cañada Real Segoviana, there are information boards for the route and markings along its course.

The hiking route from Las Navillas to Puerto Marchés is approximately 10 kilometres long, there and back, and begins at the large open area at the entrance to the locality. It follows the Cañada Real Segoviana southwards into a dense oak forest.

Townscape and History

The traditional houses of Las Navillas are built of granite rubble masonry. Some are plastered and whitewashed, while others display the masonry uncovered. They have two storeys: the ground floor was intended as living space and the upper floor as a grain store. The alternation between whitewashed and uncovered surfaces makes the construction method legible as a visible contrast.

On the road before the entrance to the locality, next to the Cañada Real, lie the anthropomorphic graves of Las Navillas; they are carved into the rock. La pisá del Santo consists of depictions engraved in a rock beside the Cañada Real path.

In 1684, Las Navillas had a chapel under the patronage of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo. The parish church of Las Navillas was built in the 1940s, possibly in 1945, from granite rubble masonry and granite blocks.

Festivals

The Candelaria celebrations in Las Navillas take place from 1 to 3 February. They include a mass, a procession, a verbena and fireworks.
