History and Landscape

La Mata first reveals itself through a historic route: the Camino Real to Guadalupe is a historic route that has been used by monarchs and pilgrims since the 14th century. Culture

The Ermita de San Pedro at the end of Calle Dehesilla in La Mata is a Gothic-Mudéjar chapel from the 16th century. The Church of San Pedro in La Mata was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) by decree of 18 June 1982. Festivals Throughout the Year

In June, Semana Cultural takes place during the week before 24 June. Its programme includes cultural, sporting and leisure activities, as well as competitions. The Fiesta de los Mayordomos tradition involves married couples who got married in the previous year dancing the Seguidilla and the Rigodón; bonfires are also lit.

The Fiestas de San Juan Bautista take place on the weekend closest to 24 June. They include processions, popular festivals, a float parade competition, bull-related events, a mass and a procession. The Fiestas del Cristo de la Paz take place on the first weekend of September; during this time, the image of Cristo de la Paz remains in the Church of San Pedro, which is also known locally as the Ermita de San Pedro.

The Fiestas de San Ildefonso take place on the weekend closest to 23 January. For the celebrations, the Mayordomos Viejos prepare buñuelos de chorro and piñonate. The various date references and types of events can be organised during planning according to season and area of interest.
