Culture

The Ermita de la Vera Cruz was probably built in the 15th century and originally served as a Carmelite monastery church. Today, it is dedicated to the town’s patron saint, Nuestra Señora de las Angustias.

Construction of the Iglesia Parroquial San Esteban Protomártir began in the second half of the 16th century. It has a basilica-style layout with three naves.

Festivals

Semana Santa ends after midnight on Easter Sunday with the del Encuentro procession in Plaza España. Its beginning, nighttime conclusion and the named processions give the festival a clearly structured sequence.

The Fiestas in honour of the Virgen de las Angustias, Mocejón’s patron saint, take place from 6 to 10 September and have been celebrated for more than 250 years. 9 September is the Day of the Bulls during these Fiestas.

The Brotherhood of the Virgen del Carmen in Mocejón was founded in 1659. Since then, 16 July has been a central date in Mocejón’s festival calendar.
