Motilleja is located on the Júcar and Valdemembra rivers. In the surrounding area, cultivated farmland blends with river landscapes. For your planning, these landscapes can be compared with culture, festivals and rural paths as different focal points.

When comparing a holiday apartment in Motilleja, you can review travel dates, room categories and cancellation conditions side by side on booking websites. Your planning can be guided by the themes you would like to combine: festival traditions, river landscapes, paths or local history.

Culture

The Mayos of Motilleja have been passed down in religious and secular form as a performance for the night of 30 April. The traditional repertoire of the Ronda de Motilleja includes jotas, seguidillas and fandangos. In Motilleja, seguidillas are regarded as the preferred and most popular dance; at the same time, they are the feature that most strongly characterizes the Ronda de Motilleja and distinguishes it from similar rondas or other groups performing popular music.

A mural by the local artist MOMO MAKINO from the 1990s depicts Santa Ana and San Isidro. La Chicharra was intended to take place annually in July, on the weekend before the patron-saint festivities in honor of Santa Ana. When planning your visit, you can distinguish between musical repertoire, festival dates and visual traces of culture.

Festivals

The tradition of Jueves Lardero includes an outing with a snack to the Zona Verde, where hornazo and mona are typically eaten. On 15 May, San Isidro is the patron saint of Motilleja. The San Isidro festival includes a pilgrimage to the Zona Verde with floats, an outdoor meal and a plowing competition. Different types of festivals and musical traditions can be considered side by side as different cultural interests for your own travel planning.

Nature

The rural area around Motilleja offers paths for walks, bicycle tours and photo excursions. Along the remains of a Roman road, you can enjoy the vegetation typical of the area, with pine trees, poplars, black poplars, ivy, reeds and aromatic plants such as thyme, lavender and savory.

The paleontological site was discovered in 1972. Numerous remains of gazelles, Equus livenzovensis, rhinoceroses, giant deer, hyenas, canids and a caracal were found at the site. It is considered one of the most interesting sites from this period in Spain and one of the reference sites in Castilla-La Mancha. From there, you can continue along the river to the well-known Cuasiermas Bridge.

For your own planning, you can consider the landscape and historical features separately: paths, the river and vegetation offer a different perspective from the archaeological site and church building. This distinction helps organize different interests side by side.

History

Inside, there is a nave in the shape of a Latin cross with an elongated vault bearing recognizable traces of Late Gothic style. The church has a tall, two-part tower crowned by a bell chamber.
