Discover Caudete: Culture, Nature and Holiday Apartments
The parish church of Santa Catalina is the oldest church in Caudete; Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles come together within it. Caudete reveals its distinctive features through buildings, festivals, museums, nature and regional cuisine – topics that can be clearly distinguished from one another when planning a trip.
Anyone looking for a holiday apartment in Caudete can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the respective listing pages. For personal planning, this information can be considered separately from the cultural, scenic and culinary highlights. The accommodation therefore represents a separate planning step alongside discovering the town.
Culture and History
The Episodios Caudetanos is a three-part verse drama and a vivid example of 17th-century religious festival theatre. As a Bien de Interés Cultural, it is recognised in the category of intangible cultural heritage. The Moros y Cristianos festival in Caudete is more than 400 years old and is recognised as a festival of regional tourist interest.
The Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Caudete is a Baroque building from the 18th century. More than fifteen buildings are also catalogued in Caudete. Theatre, festival tradition and religious architecture can be considered different forms of cultural expression when planning cultural activities.
Museums and Sightseeing
The most important piece in the collection at the Centro de Interpretación del Patrimonio Cultural de Caudete is the “Pilar Estela”; it forms part of an Iberian funerary monument from the 4th century BC. Almost 300 exhibits donated by private individuals are displayed at the Ethnographic Museum in the Molino de Abajo.
The Museo de la Acuarela “Rafael Requena” displays 75 watercolours whose main theme is the landscape. Donated exhibits, an Iberian funerary monument and painted landscapes thus stand alongside one another as different museum contents. The collections offer different perspectives on Caudete, without any one approach replacing the others.
The Museo Sala de Mantos de Ntra. Sra. de Gracia can be visited as part of a guided tour by prior appointment with the tourist office or the Santuario. Anyone including this museum in their plans should arrange the appointment in advance and take the guided tour into account as part of the visit.
Nature
The La Toconera nature area offers flat hiking and cycling routes suitable for all age groups. The Piedra Agujereada is a limestone formation located at an altitude of 722 metres, shaped by wind and water. It features easy access and panoramic views over La Toconera.
On the southern flank of the Sierra Oliva, there are around 300 climbing routes in 20 different sectors. Flat paths, an easily accessible formation with panoramic views and numerous climbing routes represent different types of activity. For personal selection, hiking, cycling and climbing can be compared according to their respective focus.
