Salobre: Gorge, river trails and traditions
Salobre features an old town whose medieval layout leads through narrow lanes to the village square. The protected Estrecho del Hocino micro-reserve encompasses a gorge formed by the Río Salobre.
Nature and trails
The interior of Estrecho del Hocino can only be reached on foot via rugged and difficult-to-navigate terrain. In some sections, the Río Salobre features rapids, calm stretches of water and pools of landscape and ecological value amid the rugged scenery. Hiking and mountain-biking routes in Salobre lead into the landscape along the Río Ojuelo and into the local holm-oak and juniper forests. The Paseo del Río de Salobre runs parallel to the river through the entire municipal area and can be walked at water level.
The Mirador de las Colmenicas y Cuevas offers views of Salobre as well as the fertile orchards and vegetable gardens irrigated by the Salobre and Ojuelo rivers. Piedra del Águila is a natural viewpoint accessible via the El Llano and Hoya del Águila trails. An area along the Río Salobre has been designated a river nature reserve. For planning your day, the various landscapes and trail types can be considered side by side according to activity, terrain and views.
