San Martín Del Rey Aurelio: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

On the outskirts of the municipality of San Martín Del Rey Aurelio runs the Anillo del Rey Aurelio, a 50-kilometre mountain circuit for mountain biking and trekking. As a circular route, it follows forest tracks, paths and local roads.

Paths and Landscapes

The Paseo Fluvial follows the banks of the Nalón through the entire municipality and connects it with Laviana and Langreo. The protected Cuencas Mineras landscape area includes areas of San Martín del Rey Aurelio in the Nalón basin. The Santa Bárbara valley lies between the Sierra de la Espina and the Sierra de San Mamés; the Santa Bárbara River flows from La Colladiella to the Nalón.

A two-kilometre-long Finnish running track runs parallel to the Nalón between Sotrondio and L’Entregu/El Entrego. The Ruta Dolménica L’Españal is an approximately three-kilometre-long themed route from La Casilla to the dolmen. It includes explanatory signs, information totems and a viewpoint. The route is described as easy and is suitable for people who are accustomed to walking; from Blimea, its starting point can be reached via the SM-7 road.

The La Isla recreation area is located near Blimea in San Martín del Rey Aurelio. It combines a tennis court, a Finnish running track, play equipment for children, exercise facilities for seniors, and tables and benches.

Culture and History

The Dolmen de la Mesa de los Moros is considered a prominent element of the Neolithic burial mound necropolis listed in the Archaeological Charter of Asturias. The Bocamina and the Monumento al Minero del Prau Molín in San Martín del Rey Aurelio are among the highlighted mining heritage attractions. The restored mills of Salvadora and Veró are among the ethnographic elements of the protected landscape area.

The Museo de la Minería y de la Industria de Asturias (MUMI) is located in L’Entregu/El Entrego and therefore in the immediate vicinity of San Martín del Rey Aurelio. It was conceived as a tribute to mining activities in Asturias and displays images of mining, machinery, minerals, a bibliography, and materials on the sociology of mining work. Pozo Sotón is protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest; the protection covers two headframes, the surrounding structure, the engine house and the trade union office. Pozo Sotón offers an immersive visitor experience in which visitors can walk through its galleries and carry out mining activities under the guidance of HUNOSA specialists. The underground visit reaches a depth of more than half a kilometre and takes place on foot and by mine railway.

The Ecomuseo Minero Valle de Samuño is located in the immediate vicinity of San Martín del Rey Aurelio. The Centro de Interpretación Armando Palacio Valdés and the Colección Cámaras de Colores del Cine Felgueroso are located in the surrounding area.

Festivals

The Fiesta de los Nabos in Sotrondio is recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Principality of Asturias. The Fiesta de les Cebolles Rellenes includes a multi-day cultural and leisure programme with music and a cooking competition for stuffed onions.

The Fiesta de los Pimientos Rellenos in Blimea is Asturias’ only competition for stuffed peppers and has a forty-year tradition. It combines gastronomic activities with concerts, folk performances and theatre productions; the stuffed-pepper competition is part of the programme.
