Nature

Espinaréu is the starting point for several mountain hikes, including a route to Pico Vízcares. The starting point of the La Pesanca–Picu Vízcares route can be reached from Infiesto via the local Pi-4 road through Espinaredo and Riofabar.

From the summit of Picu Vízcares, there are extensive views of the Cantabrian Sea, the coastal mountain ranges of Sueve and Cuera, the mountains of Cordal de Ponga and Collau Zorru, as well as the Picos de Europa.

Asturcón horses are bred in the Sierra del Sueve and live there in the wild.

Culture and History

The oldest surviving hórreo in Espinaréu dates from 1548.

La Casa del Tiempo in L'Infiestu presents a collection of more than 100 clocks and 500 objects from different periods and countries. Casa del Tiempo also houses the permanent exhibition “Los trece del Sidrón”, featuring prehistoric finds from Cueva del Sidrón. Visits to Casa del Tiempo are guided.

Cueva del Sidrón is not open to visitors; however, the exhibition “Los 13 del Sidrón” can be visited.

The first written records of the Virgen de la Cueva sanctuary in Infiesto date from the 16th century. The sanctuary grounds include a large recreational area.

The former church grounds of Santa María de Villamayor were later used as a cemetery, prison and school; in 1910, they were converted into a school.

Festivals and Markets

The Fiesta del Asturcón takes place at Majada de Espineres and is classified as a festival of national tourist interest. It includes a demonstration of foal branding and horse breaking.

The Festival de la Avellana takes place every year on the first Sunday in October in L'Infiestu. It includes a traditional market as well as exhibitions of handicrafts and agricultural food products.

The Casa del Agua Museum is located in the vicinity of Piloña.
