Discover Sardeda: Hiking Trails, Waterfalls and Festivals

From Sardeda (Sardea), the mountain route leads to Alto de La Llama via the Caserío de Paraes and the Majada de Espineres. The route is 9 km long, takes 3 hours and 30 minutes, and has a medium difficulty level. It runs entirely through the Sierra del Sueve.

Nature and Hiking Trails

In the Majada de Espineres, stone huts and stables shape the landscape; some of them are very well preserved. The Collada de Ovies is the highest point of the route. Clear days and carrying a GPS are recommended for the route, as sudden fog can make orientation difficult.

The hike “El extremo meridional del Sueve desde Sardea” offers a circular route at the southern end of the Sierra del Sueve, starting from the area around Sardea. It reaches the summit of Picu los Cuervos, which has a summit register box and a distinctive summit cross. Another easy route is titled “Pico Tiegu desde Sardeda Sierra del Sueve” and follows a fairly well-marked path to the foot of Pico Tiegu. Different route lengths, markings and destinations can be compared for planning the day.

Water, Mills and Other Trails

Behind the Molín de Sardea are up to three waterfalls. The main waterfall is about 3 to 4 metres high and falls into a pool. The hike “Cascada del molino de Sardeda” leads to this old water mill with a small bridge. The area near the Cascada del molino de Sardea can be very slippery because of persistent dampness and permanent mud. The hike to the Cascada del molino de Sardeda is considered extremely short, easy and suitable for families.

Festivals and Religious Traditions

The Fiesta del Asturcón includes an outdoor mass, award ceremonies, a demonstration of the marking and taming of horses, a communal outdoor meal and Asturian music. The festival has been held every year for more than 35 years in honour of the Asturcón horse and serves to demonstrate the recovery of its population.

The Fiesta de San Justo y San Pastor includes a solemn mass, followed by a procession through the village and an auction of the Ramu, a decorated frame adorned with bread; it ends with a Verbena, and the celebrations take place again the following year. The chapel of Saints Justo and Pastor contains only an image of Saint Justo; during the festivals, Saint Pastor is replaced by Saint Isidore.

Getting There

The starting point of the route in Sardea (Sardeda) can be reached from the N-634 via Villamayor, the AS-259 and the PI-11, followed by a municipal road. Sardeda is listed as a stop on the official 049-033 Cua–IES Infiesto bus route in the direction of Infiesto.
