Mountains and trails

The route to Pico Turbina begins at Collado La Cruz at kilometre 6.5 of the AS-345, which connects Arangas and Rozagás. The Ruta Pica Peñamellera begins and ends in Mier. Its final section leads over a rocky, exposed climbing passage recommended only for people with mountain experience.

The Camín de los Santuarios offers 174 kilometres for hiking and 175 kilometres for cycling, divided into nine main stages. The route has been structurally improved: the course was repaired, signage and safety measures were reinforced, and several sections were restored. The project to improve the Camín de los Santuarios also included measures within the municipality of Peñamellera Alta.

Nature

The southern side of the Sierra del Cuera can be reached from Alles and is designated as a protected landscape. The Mirador de Oceño overlooks the Cares Valley from the road leading uphill from Mildón to Oceño.

In Asturias, the Río Cares passes through Arenas en Cabrales, Trescares and Niserias, with Niserias belonging to Peñamellera Alta. Niserias is considered a salmon-fishing area with clear waters.

Culture

The Capilla de la Reina de los Ángeles is located in the El Pedrosu district of Alles. It forms part of a 17th-century palatial complex in the Montañes style, built on the site of an earlier manor house inhabited by the family since the late Middle Ages. The Iglesia de San Pedro en Alles is a Baroque church whose construction was completed in 1787. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Ruenes dates from the 16th century, while the Iglesia Parroquial de San Sebastián in Llonín dates from the 15th century.

The Cueva de Llonín contains more than one hundred depicted figures. The painted and engraved animal depictions are assigned to five phases ranging from the Gravettian to the Magdalenian. Outside Alles, the remains of San Pedro de Plecín belong to a late Romanesque church dated to between the 11th and 13th centuries. San Pedro de Plecín was built over an earlier pre-Romanesque church; archaeological remains of a large medieval necropolis were also found beneath it. Puente La Vidre in Trescares is a medieval single-arch bridge that may have Roman origins.

The Fiesta del Ramo in Alles is listed in the festival calendar for the Saturday after San Antonio on 13 June. La Sacramental in Alles is listed in the festival calendar for the second Saturday in August.

Gastronomy

Aula de la Miel is a facility open to the public that presents the life of bees, the work of beekeepers, and honey and honey-based gastronomy. Aula de la Miel in Alles offers a guided educational experience about honey production and the life of bees. The guided visit includes a tasting of maize tortos with various types of honey, as well as water and honey liqueur. Borono, honey and cheese are cited by the municipality as examples of the local gastronomy.

Geographical location

Oceño can be reached from the AS-114 via the turn-off at Mildón. Alles can be reached from the AS-114, which connects Arenas de Cabrales with Panes, via the turn-off at Niserias and after passing through Besnes.
