Culture

The ruins of San Pedro de Plecín in Alles are protected as a cultural heritage monument of particular significance (Bien de Interés Cultural). San Pedro de Plecín is located about 500 metres from the centre of Alles and can be reached via a path. Alles is known for its Indian-influenced architecture. The church in Alles has five altarpieces; the main altarpiece was completed at the end of the 18th century and modelled on the altarpiece of Santo Domingo de Oviedo. The church was completed in 1787; its tower was rebuilt in 1847 after being struck by lightning. It was financed by Juan de Mier y Villar, who was born in Alles in 1737.

Nature

The Camino Natural de la Cordillera Cantábrica connects two different stages with Alles. The first stage links Panes and Alles and runs along the foothills of the protected Sierra del Cuera landscape. Its final section reaches Alles at the Besnes River and passes through stands of chestnut, hazel and oak trees. The second stage runs from Alles in an east–west direction along the southern side of the protected Sierra del Cuera landscape. The signposted start of the second stage is next to Alles's local health centre; an information board marks the beginning of the stage, and signposts indicate the route ahead.

Food and drink

The Aula de la Miel de los Picos de Europa is located at Calleja Mariuca No. 3 in Alles. It is an experience centre open to the public that explains the lives of bees and the work of beekeepers, and presents honey and honey-based cuisine in an educational way. Exploring bees, beekeeping and honey offers a different focus from the history of churches and trails; these themes can therefore be considered separately when planning your day.
