Another protected coastal area of scenic importance is Playa de Las Llanas, which is classified both as a Special Protection Area for birds (ZEPA) and as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).

Culture and History
The Camino de Santiago passes through Plaza del Marqués de Muros and then continues westwards. The square was laid out in the 16th century to accommodate a market granted by Emperor Charles V. Today, it brings together the Church of Santa María, the town hall and a remarkable collection of vernacular and representative architecture.
The interior and side portal of the Church of Santa María de Muros date from 1783; its tower was built in 1883 in the neo-historicist style. Casa de Altamira is a building in the indiano style and was the home of the painter Rafael Altamira. Valdecarzana y Vallehermoso Castle has a preserved 16th-century Plateresque-style portal bearing the coats of arms of the Cienfuegos, Rúa, Ponte and Quirós families.
San Esteban de Pravia combines maritime, industrial and indiano architectural character. During the coal boom in the 20th century, it was Spain's first and only coal port. The Chapel of the Holy Spirit in San Esteban de Pravia can be reached by climbing 420 steps.
