The Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias houses 15,000 works from the 14th to the 21st century, including works by El Greco, Goya, Sorolla, Picasso, Dalí and Miró. Culture

San Julián de los Prados preserves early medieval murals that rank among the most significant surviving examples in Europe from the High Middle Ages. It presents the most important cultural periods from prehistory to the beginnings of the modern era. The museum includes a hall showcasing Asturian heritage sites with World Heritage status.

At the heart of Oviedo, the Catedral de El Salvador is a cultural, artistic and religious landmark. The Cámara Santa was declared a World Heritage Site in 1998. Santa María del Naranco is considered the most important building of European pre-Romanesque art. La Foncalada is the only example of a civil structure of pre-Romanesque architecture in an urban setting.

Santa María del Naranco can be reached on foot from the car park via a 150 m-long path; bus route A2 also runs to the Prerrománico stop.

Nature and Trails

Campo San Francisco is a 90,000 m² central green space where families, readers and curious visitors go for walks. The Vía Verde de Fuso follows the former route of a mining railway through tunnels, past trees and old railway stations. Monte Naranco rises to more than 600 metres and can be climbed on foot in a little over an hour.

The Camino de Santiago Primitivo runs from Oviedo/Uviéu to Puerto del Acebo and is 145.6 km long in total. A bus service connects Asturias Airport (OVD) with Oviedo bus station.

Food and Drink

Calle Gascona, known as the Boulevard de la sidra, is lined with restaurants and sidrerías where you can sample cider and typical cuisine. El Fontán market is particularly lively on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
