La Manjoya – Nature, Trails and Culture
The Aula de Naturaleza de La Manjoya is located in the former FEVE railway station building. It is run by the Fondo para la Protección de los Animales Salvajes (FAPAS), where various nature education activities for children take place. In its educational work, the Aula de Naturaleza uses real ant colonies, amphibian terrariums and playful teaching methods.
Nature
In the area around Estación de La Manjoya, there is a nature classroom where temporary exhibitions of regional interest are held.
Bosque de La Zoreda is located within the grounds of the former Fábrica Nacional de Explosivos de La Manjoya. In this forest, visitors can observe squirrels, wild boars, roe deer and a large number of birds. A four-kilometre-long path leads through dense woodland with oaks (carbayos), maples, birches and other tree species.
Trails
Bosque de La Zoreda can be reached by the city's number 10 bus as well as by Renfe's Cercanías commuter train via El Caleyo station.
The Senda Verde Oviedo-Fuso La Reina crosses the Ruta de la Plata motorway near La Manjoya over a wood-and-iron bridge and has picnic areas at several points.
The Vía Verde de Fuso is a low-difficulty, largely accessible or barrier-reduced route that is fully paved and can be used on foot, by bicycle or on inline skates. It passes by the Antigua Estación de Tren de La Manjoya.
For planning purposes, the trail options can be compared by landscape, surface and mode of travel; the forest, bridge and paved route each provide different focal points.
Culture
On its final descent, the Way of St. James passes through El Caserón and La Manjoya and reaches the urban area of Oviedo via the San Lázaro district.
The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol de La Manjoya is a classic and remarkable example of vernacular architecture, situated in a tree-covered meadow between El Caserón and La Bolgachina.
The church features a portico, a reddish bell gable with three arches and pointed ornamental finials.
Since 7 March 2010, its courtyard has displayed a Santiago sculpture made of white granite.
Those planning by theme can consider nature education, wildlife observation, exercise, pilgrimage route and architecture separately.
When comparing a holiday apartment in La Manjoya, you can review travel dates, room category and cancellation policies side by side. These three details form the basis for personal planning; nature education, trails and culture remain separate focal points for shaping the content of your trip. Travel dates refer to the intended period, while room category and cancellation policies each describe different aspects of the selection. This allows the details to be checked individually without mixing them with the destination's different nature, trail and cultural topics.
