Villapérez: Trails, Nature and History
The PR AS-239 hiking and cycling loop begins at Puente Viejo in Villapérez. It is intended for pedestrians and cycle tourism; four rest areas for hikers and mountain bikers have been established along the route. The type of route, its intended use and the rest areas provide different points of reference for planning the day.
Trails and Cycling Tours
At Monte Naranco in Oviedo is the Pista Finlandesa, a path approximately 5.4 kilometres long for pedestrians and cyclists; this figure refers to the outward and return journey. It opened in 1987. It follows the route of a former mining railway from the 19th century.
A circular route at Monte Naranco starting from La Corredoria passes the Villapérez wastewater treatment plant and then follows the path to Puente de Gallegos. The return journey runs via the Pista Finlandesa and San Miguel de Lillo. The cycling tour “Abrazando al Naranco II (por Violeo)” also passes through Villapérez. The tour “Abrazando al Naranco III (por Valdeflora y Escamplero)” is suitable for mountain bikes or hybrid bikes with suitable tyres.
The different routes and the specified types of bicycles provide a basis for comparing trails according to activity and bicycle type.
Nature and Landscape
The parish of Villapérez borders the River Nora. In the nearby area, the Senda La Acebera leads to the Villapérez wastewater treatment plant; there it runs between the railway line and the right bank of the River Nora. The Naranquín woodland is also nearby, with chestnut, oak, poplar, beech and cherry trees. In Folgueras, in the parish of San Vicente de Villapérez, a path to Canto de los Navalones begins.
Riverbanks, woodland and named trail destinations provide different landscape reference points for planning the day.
