Discover Serveto: Church, Trails and Peaks

In the center of Serveto, San Félix Church stands on the Plaza Mayor; it was built between the 16th and 17th centuries. On its south side there is a pointed-arch entrance with four profiled round shafts; there is also a relief featuring a Maltese cross.

Culture

The Ermita de Santa Lucía was the place where the assemblies of La Comuna took place, which was also called Comuna del Traseto or Traseto de Baldexistau. La Comuna administered the extensive common territory of the villages of Sin, Señés and Serveto and regulated their grazing areas and forest resources.

Another building contains a specific architectural detail that points to a particular year: the year 1682 is carved into the lintel of a window at Casa Buil. Casa Buil apparently has a particularly elaborate bread oven, whose opening is said to have been designed to face the kitchen. It is precisely the combination of a visible year and the merely presumed orientation of the oven that calls for a close look at the individual building details.

Trails and Landscape

A specific route is provided by the second stage of the GR 19. It runs from Gistaín via Serveto and Sin to Salinas de Sin and is 13.5 km long. The sequence of villages identifies the start, intermediate locations and destination, while the distance makes the extent of this stage tangible for personal planning.

The circular hiking route leaves Serveto via the lower part of the village, follows the PR-HU 37 in the direction of Plan, crosses the Barranco de Feneplán and climbs to El Collet. The Plan–Gistaín–Serveto–El Collet–Plan circular hiking route runs through the fields of Feneplan to Serveto. The stage and circular routes can be distinguished according to their route format, sequence of villages and the landscape features named in each case.

For personal planning, the two types of trail can be understood according to their form: the GR-19 stage connects several named locations over a fixed distance, while the circular hike describes a sequence of changes in direction, terrain features and fields. Thus, a linear connection and a loop with named reference points are presented side by side, without their details referring to the same type of route. The different ways of presenting them help to consider the extent and course separately.
