A guided vertical tour of the Torre del Agua leads across five floors and conveys the history and culture of Los Palacios y Villafranca, as well as impressions of landscapes, emblematic buildings and protected natural areas. The 30-metre-high, fully accessible viewpoint can be visited as part of a guided tour by prior appointment. The complete tour is free of charge, requires a reservation and is scheduled to last 1 hour and 30 minutes. Powerful binoculars are available on the rooftop terrace, allowing visitors to view the landscape between La Campiña and the Marisma.
Culture
The "Pueblo Lejano" Literary Route connects the town hall with the Parroquia de Santa María la Blanca and the chapels Capilla de la Aurora and Capilla de San Sebastián. It also passes historical or notable places in Los Palacios y Villafranca. The Capilla de San Sebastián was built at the beginning of the 16th century. It was formerly the church of Villafranca de las Marismas; today it houses a Baroque representation of San Miguel Arcángel, attributed to Pedro Roldán.
Nature
The landscape includes the Parque de las Marismas, a 90,000 m² green space for recreation and leisure activities. Lawns, trees, plants and walking paths characterise the park. Los Palacios y Villafranca is also home to the Humedal de Cerro de las Cigüeñas, an artificial, permanently water-bearing wetland of ecological interest. The Humedal el Pantano is a fluvio-littoral wetland with high marshes and lucios on the Atlantic Baetic coast. It is alluvial in character, semi-permanent and fed epigenically.
Routes, cuisine and events
The Ruta del Arroz passes through twelve localities and combines nature, cultural heritage and gastronomy; Los Palacios y Villafranca is also located along this route. On a local route, visitors can learn about the cultivation process of the Tomate de Los Palacios and sample it in local recipes. Another specific route is the Los Palacios y Villafranca–Utrera horse-riding route. It includes a 16-kilometre section through the Campiña, fields, rural roads, ranches, cortijos, haciendas and livestock tracks.
The Feria de Los Palacios y Villafranca includes Doma Campera competitions, horse and mule races with ribbons, circular mule races, a cucaña, a mounted parade and carriage demonstrations.
