Fuentes de Andalucía represents a combination of protected architecture, historical traces, carnival traditions and paths through the rural surroundings. This character is particularly evident in the historic centre: in 2002, it was placed under heritage protection as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Conjunto Histórico category. The Iglesia de Santa María la Blanca was also declared protected cultural heritage as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category. Construction began towards the end of the 16th century; the church is also known by the name Santa María de las Nieves. Its features correspond to a late Baroque building with a strong classical influence. The tower is decorated with columns and polychrome tiles.

Culture

Another historical trace leads to the Castillo del Hierro, which has Muslim origins. The complex was built as a fortress at the beginning of the 14th century and was fully developed by the middle of the same century. Today, the Castillo del Hierro is integrated into the town's built-up area. One of the notable surviving elements is the keep. In addition, the Silo of Fuentes de Andalucía serves as an interpretation centre and multifunctional cultural space in a former grain silo. The interpretation centre there addresses Andalusian agriculture as well as history and development. It also explains the civil and religious architecture of Fuentes de Andalucía based on the tradition shaped by the master builders Ruiz Florindo.

Historical points of reference can also be found beyond these buildings. Fuente de la Reina is an archaeological site of Iberian origin with few remains, mainly Roman ones. The Castillo de la Monclova is located on the outskirts of Fuentes de Andalucía on the site of the ancient Turdetani city of Obúlcula. Some of the remains found there are exhibited inside the estate. The Parque Luchadores por la Libertad was converted into a small memorial park commemorating the residents of Fuentes de Andalucía who were shot.

Local traditions

The Carnival of Fuentes de Andalucía is recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico de Andalucía. Its characteristic disguise is the mask: the body and voice are altered so that the person cannot be recognised. The Carnival also includes the Murgas. These neighbourhood groups sing coplas about the year's most important local events, accompanied by a drum and a small drum.

According to a described custom, water and flower petals are provided for visitors. They can use them to wet their heads in order to ward off future misfortune. The tradition combines a specific action with the traditional purpose attributed to it.

Landscape and paths

The Vía Verde de la Campiña follows part of the former Córdoba–Marchena railway line and connects Fuentes de Andalucía with La Luisiana and Marchena. The route is suitable for walking and cycling. Another option in the rural surroundings is the IE-029 Campiña-Alcores de Sevilla horse-riding route. It leads into the municipality of Fuentes de Andalucía and continues to Écija via livestock tracks and the former Camino de los Palos. The ecotourism routes through the rural surroundings provide opportunities to observe local flowers, birds, shrubs and small animals.

Gastronomy

One experience leads to two viewpoints: the tower of the Santa María la Blanca church and the Silo-mirador de la Campiña. Another experience includes a tasting of local gin and tonics with live music. After visiting and thoroughly touring the Silo-mirador de la Campiña, the experience also includes a guided tasting of selected craft beers.
