History and architectural heritage

The original castle and the Ermita de Santa María Magdalena were located on Cerro de la Magdalena. This site is considered the origin of the town of Castilblanco de los Arroyos.

One of the town's defining buildings is the Iglesia Parroquial del Divino Salvador. It has an original Mudéjar structure; its façade and tower underwent their final remodelling in the 18th century, specifically between 1705 and 1769. The church consists of three naves separated by semicircular arches.

The Casa de la Sierra is an emblematic building in the town and was built in 1923. The Museo Etnológico Casa La Sierra presents local activities and crafts, including the production of plant fibre, traditional shoemaking and honey production. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Escardiel is also part of the town's architectural heritage: it was built on a site with a medieval history and is designed in the Mudéjar style.

Festivals and local traditions

The Fiesta del Agua has been part of Castilblanco de los Arroyos' festival programme since 1986. The traditional event takes place on the Plaza Amarilla and includes a lively water fight with buckets.

The Real Romería de Nuestra Señora de Escardiel is classified as an event of national tourist interest. Castilblanco de los Arroyos also hosts the Convención Apícola, an event devoted to beekeeping, bees and honey.

The Albergue del Peregrino is part of the local pilgrimage tradition. It has 30 beds, separate bathrooms and showers for women and men, a kitchen, a living and dining room, and a washing machine.

Trails through the countryside

The Vía pecuaria Vereda la Cuesta del Señor bears the designation SL-A 322 and has been definitively designated as a route for sporting use. The Vereda La Cuesta del Señor is almost 5 km long.

Castilblanco de los Arroyos is listed as the reference point for the Camino del Piquillo. The total length is 5.5 km, with an approximate duration of one hour. The Camino del Piquillo is an unpaved path suitable for walks by bicycle and on horseback.

The route to the Pantano de Los Molinos is 12 km long and takes approximately six hours. It begins at the end of Calle El Ejido, where the Camino de Escardiel starts. The section in question ends at the reservoir; a wide variety of bird and fish species are listed there for observation.

The Ermita de San Benito lies in the foothills of the Sierra Morena, 12 km from Castilblanco de los Arroyos and 1 km from the Río Viar. The Ruta Camino del Pimpollar passes through dehesa landscapes with holm oaks and cork oaks and crosses numerous small streams.

The Ruta de los Melonares is 31 km long, takes around eight hours and, because of its length, is recommended for completion over several days.
