Holiday apartment in Écija: discover the city of towers

Écija is nicknamed the “City of Towers” because its cityscape is marked by eleven towers, nine bell gables, as well as numerous temples, palaces and viewpoints. Its historical character has also been officially recognised: in 1966, Écija was declared a Historic-Artistic Site.

Culture

One particularly striking building is the Palacio de Benamejí, an outstanding example of Écija’s 18th-century Baroque architecture. The palace is also listed as a Historic-Artistic Monument. Its religious architecture includes the Iglesia de Santa María, an 18th-century church built over an earlier Mudéjar temple. It also houses an archaeological collection featuring a Roman marble head.

History

The Convento de las Teresas is located in the former palace of the Counts of Palma. This building is a Mudéjar structure constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries. The traces at the Plaza de Armas archaeological site date back even further. Turdetanian and Roman remains, as well as parts of the wall of a Muslim castle, have been preserved there. The settlement layers extend from the beginnings of Écija around the 8th century BC to the present day.

Landscape

The Vía Verde de la Campiña, also known as the Camino Natural de La Campiña Sevillana, runs through the municipality of Écija. It follows the former railway line from Marchena to Valchillón. The former transport route is therefore present in the landscape of Écija as a designated trail. In the city, Parque San Pablo complements this connection with the landscape: it is protected as a historic garden in Écija’s heritage catalogue.

Activities

On the Río Genil, the Club de Piragüismo offers canoeing and rafting trips for various ability levels. No prior experience is required, equipment is provided and the activity is supervised by an instructor. Écija also has approved routes for equestrian tourism.

Local character

The Plaza de Abastos market in Écija was built in 1844. Écija also includes Cañada De Rabadán.

It is also worth checking the services included, any possible additional costs and the individual components of the price. Booking and cancellation conditions should also be clearly stated. Check which points actually belong to the respective offer, and only then compare the options with one another. The specific details of each accommodation are decisive. When opening and comparing the offers, you can also check the exact location, type of accommodation and stated occupancy. It is important to know whether services are included or appear as additional costs, and how the total price is composed. The applicable booking and cancellation conditions should likewise be clearly stated. For each offer, the relevant points to check therefore remain separate: location, occupancy, services, price components and the respective conditions. These points can be viewed directly side by side without inferring a specific offer from the characteristics of the destination.
