Holiday apartment in La Puebla de los Infantes: nature, hiking trails and culture

La Puebla de los Infantes combines a distinctive mid-mountain landscape with diverse natural surroundings, notable hiking trails and sacred buildings dating from several centuries. The northern part of the municipality lies within the Sierra Norte de Sevilla Natural Park. The municipality’s elevations range between 200 and 500 metres, shaping the town’s landscape setting.

Nature and landscape

The vegetation in the municipality displays a remarkable range. It extends from xerophilous forests with wild olive trees, holm oaks and carob trees, as well as Mediterranean scrubland, to more humid dehesas. Cork oaks, holm oaks, Portuguese oaks and rockroses grow there. Different landscape areas therefore exist side by side, without the municipality being reducible to a single type of vegetation.

The local fauna also includes numerous characteristic species. These include red deer, wild boar and fallow deer, as well as lynxes and otters. Among the bird species mentioned are golden eagles and eagle owls. The natural environment thus ranges from wooded and scrub-covered areas to the more humid parts of the dehesas.

Trails and activities

One specific route is Las Palomas–Valle de Castril. The circular route is 22.4 kilometres long and has an estimated duration of five hours. It can be completed on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. From Seville, the route can be reached via the E-5, A-457 and SE-6102. From Lora del Río, the approach follows the Embalse de José Torán reservoir.

The Camino del Águila is another designated trail. It is 25 kilometres long and classified as a short long-distance hiking trail. Both routes are therefore characterised by specific length details and their own trail features, while Las Palomas–Valle de Castril additionally specifies travel on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.

The Embalse de José Torán reservoir also provides the setting for two explicitly mentioned activities: fishing is possible at the reservoir, and paramotoring can be practised in its surroundings. The information refers once directly to the Embalse de José Torán and once to its surrounding area.

Culture

The sacred buildings of La Puebla de los Infantes date from between the 13th or 14th century and the 15th or 16th century. The Ermita de Santiago is dated to the 13th or 14th century based on its features. The Iglesia de Santa María de las Huertas dates from the 15th century. The Ermita de Santa Ana has its own distinct architectural character: it is a Mudéjar hermitage with transverse arches.
