Culture and history

The Evangelical Church in Puconci was built in 1784 and is considered the first brick-built Protestant church in Slovenia. A comprehensive renovation was carried out in 1908–1909 according to plans by the architect László Takáts; the church was enriched with Secession-style decoration in the process. Inside the Evangelical Church of Aleksander Terplan in Puconci, there is also a gallery without supporting columns.

The Števan Küzmič Memorial House commemorates Števan Küzmič. His 1771 translation of the New Testament into Prekmurje is regarded as the foundation of the Prekmurje literary language. The memorial house welcomes tourist groups and can offer information about Protestantism as well as documentaries on local history. Its facilities include a permanent exhibition of Protestant books and documents, as well as temporary exhibitions that are renewed several times a year.

A memorial column erected in 1933 marks the site of the first Protestant service and the first baptism in Puconci on 12 October 1783. Spametnost is a monument dedicated to the Reformation that illustrates ten values highlighted by the Reformation.

Cuisine

The Dödolijada and culinary exhibition for the Golden Kijanca is the best-known event organised by KTD Puconci. It preserves authentic home dishes typical of Prekmurje. At the Dödolijada, visitors of all ages can try preparing dödoli and other Prekmurje dishes.

Events

As part of the Martinov pohod, a tasting presentation of wines from local winemakers took place. At the Martinov pohod organised by the Development Institute of the Municipality of Puconci, hikers were welcomed back to the starting point with a warm home-cooked meal and a market featuring homemade products and products by local artists.

The Biciklijada in Puconci was held for the 24th time on 26 April 2026. It offered four routes of varying difficulty levels between 17 and 61 kilometres, including a mountain bike route.
