The cycling route over Tinjan climbs to Tinjan’s 374 m-high summit, from where it offers views of the Gulf of Trieste, Koper and its hinterland, the Osap Valley and the Karst edge. In clear weather, the view extends as far as the Julian and Carnic Alps and the Dolomites. Tinjan thus combines trails through the countryside, expansive landscapes and historical points of reference.

Culture

Tinjan is a settlement monument, or a settlement heritage unit, listed in the municipal register of monuments and cultural heritage. In the centre of the village stands St. Michael’s Church with a mighty linden tree. The single-nave church, designed in the Baroque style, stands on the edge of the village on the walled plateau of a prehistoric fortification. It was built before 1700 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century.

Landscape

The hiking route over Tinjan also offers views of the Gulf of Koper, the Šavrin Hills, the Karst edge and the Osap Valley. In clear weather, the view extends to the Alps and the Dolomites.

Hiking

The ascent from Osp to Tinjan is an easy, 2.8 km hike with a walking time of one hour and 341 m of elevation gain, a family outing for children aged three to four.
