Holiday apartment in Osp: Climbing and cultural heritage
Osp brings together several clearly defined aspects: the climbing area and its routes, trails with names of their own, a compact old village, and archaeological traces.
The Osp climbing area has 267 routes with difficulty ratings from 3 to 9a. Mišja peč has 203 climbing routes with difficulty ratings from 4a/a+ to 9a+/b and is located approximately 500 metres from the village of Osp. Thanks to the favourable climate, climbing at Mišja peč and on the Wall of Osp is possible almost all year round. For decades, Osp has attracted the world's best climbers.
Trails
Osp is also connected to specific routes and trails. The “Krožna pot gradov” castle circular trail passes through Osp. The P3 “Under the Climbing Wall” trail begins at the car park by the autocamp in Osp. It is 15 kilometres long and takes approximately four to five hours on foot. The K2 route around Tinjan leads to Osp and to the famous climbing wall with the source of the Osp River. The trail names refer to different points of reference: castles, the climbing wall, and Tinjan.
Culture
The compact old village of Osp is characterised by a labyrinth of narrow lanes. Osp was first mentioned in 1067. St. Thomas’s Church, dating from the 18th century, stands on the edge of Osp. The parish church of St. Thomas was renovated in the late Baroque style and is registered as a sacred architectural monument of the architectural cultural heritage. The area around the fortification at Jama Grad is also part of the village’s history: it is an archaeological site with finds from prehistoric, Roman, medieval, and modern times.
Landscape
Osapska jama Cave, also called Jama Grad, is a horizontal cave with a watercourse in the collapse basin of Osp.
