Discover Šalgočka: Cycle Route, Park and Cultural History

In Šalgočka, the 58-kilometre “Okruh Podunajskou pahorkatinou” circular cycle route passes through the village. Šalgočka lies on the western edge of the Nitrianska pahorkatina in the flat valley of the Jác stream. The municipality consists of a deforested loess hill landscape. Culture and Architectural History

The local church in Šalgočka is dedicated to Saint Barbara. The Davidovci family built a church in Šalgočka. The church “Kostol sv. Terézie Veľkej” is a Baroque religious building that was constructed as a chapel in the 17th century and expanded into a church around 1740 by adding a nave.

The Kúria of Šalgočka was originally built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century and remodelled in the Neoclassical style in the first half of the 19th century. It is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund under number 2259/1. When considering the Kúria, you can place its early Baroque construction phase, Neoclassical alteration and heritage classification side by side as three historical levels.

Park and Protection

The Kúria park grounds in Šalgočka are privately owned, are a national cultural monument of historical value and require a special protection regime; they are not a public green space. Part of the extensive park that surrounded the Kúria has been preserved to this day. The use of the park grounds for organised, regulated cultural and social activities has been proposed.

Village Tradition and Cuisine

Viticulture was one of the historical occupations of the inhabitants of Šalgočka. The event “Varí, pečie celá rodina, varí pečie celá dedina 2026” includes a traditional competition in cooking goulash in a cauldron and the tasting of traditional village cakes.
