Veľké Úľany – Culture, Nature and Cycling Routes

Veľké Úľany is located in the Podunajská nížina between the Čierna Voda, which flows through the northern part of the municipality, and the Malý Dunaj. When choosing a holiday apartment in Veľké Úľany, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be considered separately. Culture and History

Malá Kalvária is registered under number 2522 as a cultural monument in the Central List of the National Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic. The complex was built in 1740, and its chapel was built in 1756. It includes a pear-shaped atrium and the Chapel of Sedem bolestnej Panny Márie. It also includes the statues of Panny Márie and sv. Jána evanjelistu, erected in 1759, a stone cross from 1775, and chapels of the Stations of the Cross.

The Dom ľudového bývania has a thatched roof, a courtyard, a draw well and an enclosure dating from the mid-19th century. The building was constructed in 1910 and opened on 1 July 1991 after reconstruction. The exhibition was opened to the public in 1992.

In the centre of Veľké Úľany stands the Kúria, a Neoclassical building constructed by Mikuláš Lacsný in 1828. It has one storey, an L-shaped floor plan and an open arcade in the courtyard area of the side wing.

The tower of the church “Kostol sv. Michala archanjela” was built in 1718. The Roman Catholic church was begun in the Renaissance style in 1594 and is said to have been completed in 1670; after 1756, it was extended with side aisles. The Evangelical church was established in 1958 on the initiative of Slovak immigrants, mainly from Dolná zem, by converting an agricultural building belonging to Pálffyho majera.

Nature and Experiences

Lotos Lake is a 3.5-hectare family recreation area with a 1.1-hectare lake. It offers a mini zoo, a children’s playground and horse riding.

Fishing is also available at Lotos Lake. The 1.1-hectare lake is home to eight fish species, including carp, crucian carp, grass carp, pike and catfish, as well as other species. Cycling Routes

A new cycling route runs outside the state road and is 4.89 km long in total. Of this, 2.299 km runs along the protective embankment of the Čierna Voda waterway. Another cycling route leads from Veľké Úľany to the industrial park in Sládkovičovo. The two cycling routes differ in their described layout: the new route specifies a total length and a section along the protective embankment of the Čierna Voda, while the other is characterised by its connection between Veľké Úľany and Sládkovičovo.
