Topoľčianky combines castle history, horse culture, parkland, wine and bison conservation. Between historic buildings, protected green spaces and regional visitor destinations, the town presents a diverse range of attractions.
Culture
Topoľčianky Castle is a national cultural monument. From 1923 to 1951, it served as the summer residence of the presidents of Czechoslovakia. The Neoclassical wing of Topoľčianky Castle houses a museum section open to the public and adds an insight into its museum use to the historical significance of the ensemble.
Another defining institution is the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky. It is a living national cultural monument and preserves the gene pool of the Lipizzaner, Arabian, Hucul and Slovak Warmblood horse breeds for Slovakia and Europe. Visits to the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky include tours of the stud farms and the riding hall dating from the Habsburg era. The stud farm also offers carriage rides in Topoľčianky and the surrounding area in carriages drawn by Lipizzaners. The Hipological Museum Topoľčianky gives visitors a comprehensive overview of horses and their use in society.
Nature
Topoľčianky Park is a protected landscape area with a species-rich dendrological collection. It is open to the public in all areas, closed to motor vehicles with the exception of vehicles operated by the park administration, and partially accessible to cyclists. The park stretches for two and a half kilometres along the Leveš stream from the town centre beyond the outskirts.
In the wider regional surroundings of Topoľčianky, the Zubria zvernica bison enclosure was established in 1958 to protect the European bison from extinction. There, a viewing platform offers the opportunity to observe bison; a two-kilometre educational trail also leads through the enclosure.
Wine and tradition
Château Topoľčianky offers visitors and passing tourists a half-hour short presentation of the winery, including insights into the cellar rooms and archive, accompanied by a member of the winery staff. Two to three wine tastings are offered, along with information about the company and its wine production.
On 16 September 2023 at 2:00 p.m., the folklore festival and the grape harvest or wine harvest celebration “Folklórne slávnosti a Vinobranie” took place in the town centre of Topoľčianky. At the folklore festival and wine harvest celebration held in Topoľčianky on that day, there were stalls selling traditional Slovak specialities as well as folk and artistic products.
