Čierne Kľačany: Pyxida, Culture and Wine

In Čierne Kľačany, the sculpture group of Cyril and Methodius stands in front of the church; it was unveiled on 22 June 1997. Culture

In the Futalova Valley, a commemorative plaque marks the site where the Great Moravian pyxida was found. Parts of an ivory jewellery casket were discovered there in 1974. At the church, the Čiernokľačianska PYXIDA is identified as the subject of a LEADER/CLLD project. The local building and settlement history also includes the building of the local mill, which has been reconstructed and dates from 1715.

In the centre of the village lies the Slovenské javorové srdce, a heart-shaped park made up of maple trees. The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque church dating from 1777. Inside is a late Baroque painting of Saint John of Nepomuk from the 1770s, which came from the former main altar. In the vineyards stands a chapel with a statue of Saint Urban, the patron saint of vineyards.

Wine and Festivals

The Vinobranie took place in Čierne Kľačany, among other years, from 2015 to 2019 and in 2024. It is classified as an occasional market; the event venues are considered to be the area near the primary school in Čierne Kľačany or Školská Street and the surrounding public space. The wine connection also includes a festival of Saint Urban with a mass in the vineyards. The market and the mass represent two different types of event and can therefore be considered separately when planning the timing. The years place the Vinobranie in a chronological context, while the mass in the vineyards has its own connection to the festival of Saint Urban.

Activities

In 2026, the Čiernokľačianska Pyxida reached its 29th edition as a road race. The 15,000 m asphalt circuit led from Čierne Kľačany via Nemčiňany, Malé Vozokany and Veľké Vozokany back to Čierne Kľačany; the start and finish were in front of the cultural centre in Čierne Kľačany. The programme also included a 5,000 m circuit in Čierne Kľačany along Mlynská and Matičná Streets, as well as a Nordic walking route on this circuit.

The two circuit lengths and the Nordic walking option can be compared side by side when planning your personal day and route. The route details reveal different time and sporting focuses without equating the formats with one another. The routes also distinguish the activities: the longer race connects several of the named municipalities, while the shorter circuit and the Nordic walking route remain within Čierne Kľačany.
