Holiday apartment in Lúčky: waterfall, springs and Veľký Choč

The Lúčanský vodopád is one of Lúčky’s most distinctive natural features: the 13-metre-high cascading waterfall drops from the edge of a travertine terrace into a pond. It has been protected as a national natural monument since 1974. A special feature is the warm spring water from the spa resort, which flows into the waterfall. As a result, it does not freeze and can be admired all year round.

Nature and springs

The Lúčanské travertíny also give the area a distinctive landscape. They include the plateau-like elevation of Skálie and the rock walls of Zápoly and Skaličky. The Lúčanské travertíny have been protected as a natural monument since 1975. Six mineral springs are also located north of Lúčky.

The AQUA-VITAL Park is also part of the area’s water and recreation attractions. It is open year-round and offers a heated outdoor relaxation pool with a water temperature of 28–32 °C. There is also an outdoor seating pool with healing mineral water at a temperature of 36–38 °C.

Hiking and cycling

The educational trail “Choč pre nás a my pre neho” runs through the Choč National Nature Reserve. It begins in Lúčky, passes the Lúčanský vodopád and the spa area, and continues through the valley and forest to the summit of Veľký Choč. The educational trail ends at Veľký Choč; its summit offers panoramic views in all directions.

A marked cycling route is also part of the local network of trails: it runs past the DEO chapel in Lúčky.

History and culture

The Roman Catholic Church of Povýšenia sv. Kríža in Lúčky was built from 1820 to 1824 and consecrated in 1825. Two paintings by Jozef Hanula have been preserved in the church. The paintings with which Alojz Fellegi decorated the church in the 1930s include depictions of the Stations of the Cross.

The history of the Kúpele Lúčky spa resort is closely connected with its springs. After the springs were revitalised around 1760, Kúpele Lúčky developed more strongly as a place for treatment, recreation and entertainment at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Another historical influence came from rafting: in the past, Lúčky was known above all for this activity. The figure of the raftsman influenced the artistic work, life stories and style of many residents of Lúčky.

Local attractions

The Pamätný domček Lúčky shows how people’s ancestors once lived in two traditionally furnished rooms. The Pamätný domček Lúčky can be visited on request during the opening hours of the tourist information centre.

The Lúčky Tourist Information Centre offers guided tours of Lúčky in traditional Lúčky folk costume and accompanied by Lúčky songs. The programme for children and adults also includes hands-on beekeeping excursions at an apiary in Lúčky. The tourist information centre provides information about excursions and attractions in Lúčky, as well as nearby caves, water parks and cycling routes.

The local programme also includes lectures on sourdough baking with tastings, offered by the Lúčky Tourist Information Centre. Nature, spa history, sacred art, traditional ways of life and routes through the surrounding area thus come together in various forms.
