Discover Senec: Lakes, Aquapark and Culture
Senec combines the almost 120-hectare water surface of Slnečné jazerá with summer events and historic sites in the city centre. The city therefore offers several clearly distinct facets: water and shores, organised leisure activities, a connection between the lake and the city centre, and cultural history. This combination can be seen both at the lakes themselves and in the facilities and events found in Senec throughout the year.
Water
In Senec, Slnečné jazerá cover a water surface of almost 120 hectares. Swimming is possible in the lakes; there are also opportunities for water sports, boating and fishing. The shores have grassy beaches, and the access to the water slopes gently. The average water temperature is 25°C. This means that various forms of use exist side by side at the lake, while the shore design and the temperature specification further characterise the waterscape.
Leisure
Aquapark Senec is open or operating year-round. The water comes from a borehole and is 28–38°C warm. It is provided in six different pools. During the summer season, the number of pools increases to as many as eleven. The aquapark also includes a 25-metre swimming pool. LAZY RIVER is available as another water attraction.
Getting around
The Senec Express tourist train connects Slnečné jazerá with Senec city centre. In summer, it runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at regular hourly intervals, completing a 7.3-kilometre loop around the lakes; the start and destination are on Senec’s main square. The timetable specifies the train’s seasonal operation as well as the length of its route and its central departure and destination point.
Culture
The Renaissance manor house Turecký dom stands on Senec’s central square. The building was constructed between 1556 and 1560 by Krištof Baťán, the Bratislava County governor. Turecký dom currently houses the Senec City Museum. Senec’s local tourist information centre is also located there.
Senecké leto is a traditional socio-cultural event. Since 1990, it has opened the summer tourism season at Slnečné jazerá. Senecké leto takes place in mid-June on the southern side of the lakes. The date therefore falls at the beginning of the summer season, while the venue is located directly at the lakes.
Senec also presents a permanent exhibition on the nature and earlier history of Senec and its surroundings. Its subject matter therefore ranges from nature to the town’s and its surrounding area’s earlier past.
