Miloslavov: History, Crafts and Paths on Žitný ostrov

Miloslavov combines visible local history with craft traditions. The former church building on Námestie sv. Alžbety, now used as the Podunajský remeselný dvor, is considered the oldest historical monument in Miloslavov. It was built as a church dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia no later than the beginning of the 14th century.

Culture and Crafts

At the Podunajský remeselný dvor, blacksmiths, woodcarvers, weavers and ceramicists from the surrounding area regularly demonstrate their crafts using original tools. At the same time, they pass their skills on to subsequent generations. Its use as a craft courtyard connects the former sacred building with a workplace in use today. The historic space, original tools and inherited skills are presented here in a shared context. For individual visits, the courtyard is open from April to October on Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 to 16:00.

The Zvonica Alžbetin Dvor in Alžbetin Park also tells the story of local development. Residents built it in 1947; its construction was based on the construction of a wind pump by the farmer Jirsák. In the past, the Zvonica served as a death bell and a fire warning signal. Sadová Park is also home to the bell tower of Miloslavov, which in 1935 was the first steel tower of its kind built by the settlers of Miloslavov. Alžbetin Park and Sadová Park contain two historic structures: the Zvonica Alžbetin Dvor and the bell tower of Miloslavov. The parks add bell structures to this local history, with their origins and former functions preserved in tradition.

History

The founding assembly of the settlers of the Anna Majer colony took place at the Miloslavov Memorial Fountain on 29 June 1921. The colony was later renamed Miloslavov. A monument commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Miloslavov was erected near Lipový Park in 2021.

Landscape and Paths

Miloslavov lies in the upper part of Žitný ostrov, in the Podunajská nížina Danube Lowland. The Náučný chodník Miloslavov educational trail in Alžbetin Dvor offers a closer look at the surrounding area. It starts at the ramp at the corner of Južná and Agátová, is approximately 500 m long and comprises five information panels. They cover the seasons, local trees, an animal-tracks maze, flowers, and parents and their young. The educational trail brings together nature observation and local context in a short, clearly structured route.

A new route for cyclists was ceremonially opened. It connects Dunajská Lužná directly with the Alžbetin Dvor district of Miloslavov.

Faith and Remembrance

The Baptist prayer house in Miloslavov was ceremonially opened on 7 November 1926. Regular Roman Catholic services are scheduled at the Church of Divine Mercy in Alžbetin Dvor: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 18:00, Saturdays at 7:30, and Sundays at 7:30 and 10:30.
