Holiday apartment in Večelkov: Nature, water reservoir and culture
Večelkov is located in the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area, which includes rare and valuable biotopes, and is one of the Slovak municipalities belonging to the Novohrad-Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark. Its landscape consists predominantly of treeless hills, often divided by erosion gullies; the underlying geology is formed by Tertiary rocks and sandstone. In the western part of the cadastral area, there are scattered beech forests with oak and black locust trees. The protected plants listed for Večelkov include poniklec lúčny černastý, kukučka vencová, kosatec nízky, mechúrnik stromovitý, zlatofúz južný and several species of the feather grass genus.
Water
A large water reservoir is located in the cadastral area of Večelkov, together with Petrovce and Dubno. The freely accessible section is used by anglers from all over Slovakia and abroad and, during the summer months, primarily serves local residents as a bathing area. Thus, two clearly defined uses come together at this body of water: fishing and swimming, with the bathing area intended particularly for local residents.
The reference to the freely accessible section applies to both of the stated uses of the water reservoir.
Culture and history
A statue of Sándor Petőfi stands in Večelkov. It was created by Július Mag, an academic sculptor from Večelkov. Another historical connection is provided by the lignite mines that existed in the cadastral area of Večelkov from the mid-19th century.
