Holiday apartment in Cakov – Šťavica Spring and Churches

Cakov is located in the Rimavská kotlina on the floodplain of the Blh. The combination of landscape, traces of the past, and church architecture gives the village several clearly distinguishable facets.

Nature

The Šťavica Spring is a three-metre-deep dug well with stone-lined walls. It is located behind former vineyards, about 700 m southeast of Cakov. It is also situated to the right of the farm track, about 250 m up the slope. The spring water is channelled to a collection point on the state road and used for drinking. It is natural, carbonated, cold, and hypotonic.

At the southeastern edge of Cakov, there is a borehole near the natural mineral-water spring on the right bank of the Blh valley. In the vicinity of Cakov, there is also the Veľké Konopnice area, which is considered a mushroom-picking area.

History

The origins of Cakov date back at least to the 13th century. The village has been documented in written records since 1395. During the Ottoman wars, Cakov was devastated twice and later resettled.

The historical record therefore encompasses both an early chronological classification and a specifically documented written record. The two devastations during the Ottoman wars and the subsequent resettlement also mark a turning point in the village’s history, without reducing its older settlement history to a single point in time.

Culture

The Reformed Church in Cakov was built in 1922 in the Secession style. It has a hall layout with a segmental-ended plan and a tower projecting in front of the façade. The Reformed Church is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.

The Kostol Mena Panny Márie church in Cakov was built in 1931. The building is a single-nave sacred structure with a front tower integrated into the façade. The church is in good condition and serves its purpose. It belongs to the parish of Rimavská Seč.

The two churches represent different building functions and design features within the village.
