Holiday apartment in Ivanice: Local History and Landscape
Ivanice can be explored through several specific details of its local history and landscape.
Culture
Ivanice was first mentioned in writing in 1245. The historical names Iwan (1245), Ivanfalua (1427), Iwanyi (1786), Ivanovce (1920) and Ivanice (1927) are also recorded for the village.
During Ottoman rule, Ivanice was partly depopulated. A particularly significant example of the local architectural heritage is the Neoclassical Reformed church. It is the oldest monument in the municipality, was built in 1797 and was remodelled and adapted in the 20th century. Its present appearance therefore combines the building's historical origins with later alterations.
Landscape
Ivanice lies in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, on the floodplain and a terrace of the Blh. The village centre is situated at an elevation of 168 metres.
The unforested municipal area of Ivanice on the terraces of the uplands and the river floodplain consists of Tertiary marls, claystones and sandstones. These rocks are covered by river deposits and loess loams. The soils also reflect different landscape areas: Ivanice has brown earth, alluvial and gley soils. Geology, overlying deposits and soil types are therefore among the specific features of the municipal area.
Nature
There are no protected areas in the cadastral territory of Ivanice, neither large-scale nor small-scale protected areas, no bird protection area, no proposed site of European importance and no Natura 2000 protected areas. This classification describes the protection status of the entire cadastral territory across its various categories.
A groundwater survey by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute for 2023 lists a site called Studňa pri Blhu in Ivanice.
