Šimonovce: Holiday Apartment, Heritage Zone and Village Green

The Reformed Toleration Church in Šimonovce was built in 1790 on older foundations and is the oldest monument in Šimonovce. The village reveals itself through several clearly distinguishable facets, from the landscape to the built heritage.

Landscape

Šimonovce lies in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, in the floodplain of the Rimava. The unwooded municipal territory of Šimonovce comprises flat and hilly terrain with pronounced terraces. Tertiary marls, claystones and sandstones are covered by river deposits and loess soils. Thus, open landforms and different geological layers exist side by side within the same municipal territory.

Culture

In the heritage zone of Šimonovce, an almost intact linear development extends around a broad, elongated rectangular village green crossed by a road. The heritage zone of Šimonovce was designated in 1996. Its characteristic spatial arrangement is therefore defined by the combination of rows of houses, a widened road and the central village green.

Historic Buildings

The Classicist manor house in Šimonovce was built in the first half of the 19th century. Its condition is described as poor; one of its façades has been modernized and extensively altered. At the same time, the single-storey building has a rectangular floor plan, and an original columned loggia is located on the courtyard side. The historic building stock also includes the folk house at Šimonovce 109, a brick house dating from 1863. The folk house with grounds at Šimonovce 109 was declared a national cultural monument in 1963. In the heritage zone, the buildings date predominantly from the 19th century and are arranged along the road. The houses have three or more rooms; they are built of mud bricks and brick, plastered and whitewashed, and grouped around the widened road.

Cycle Route

A cycle route from Rimavská Sobota via Jesenské and Šimonovce to the Hostice Reservoir runs on paved roads and is suitable for various types of bicycles. The route thus names both the places along the way and the Hostice Reservoir as its destination.
