Nature

Ratková is situated on a floodplain and a terrace area in the valley of the Západný Turiec. On both sides of the watercourse, the municipality includes a hilly landscape characterised by oak forests. The local landscape therefore encompasses both the valley areas and terrace surfaces as well as the wooded elevations along the watercourse. These different landforms give Ratková’s geographical surroundings a clearly recognisable structure.

Culture

Several buildings reflect different periods in the town’s history. The former Evangelical school in Ratková is a Classicist building dating from 1818. The town hall in Ratková is also a Classicist building, constructed in 1827. This architectural heritage is complemented by a monument to D. Bachát from 1940.

The Evangelical church in Ratková is particularly closely connected with the history of the town. It is part of the Gothic Route and was built between 1520 and 1540 in the late Gothic style. The presbytery has a Gothic net-vault. A free-standing Baroque-Classicist bell tower was erected next to the Evangelical church in 1786. The combination of the late Gothic church, distinctive vault, and later bell tower makes the individual construction phases at the same location comprehensible.

Cycling

A specific cycling connection also begins in Ratková: the “Ratková–Ratkovská Suchá” cycle route follows the Rudohorská long-distance cycle route (012) along the state road towards Hnúšťa. This designated route connects the starting point in Ratková with a clearly marked trail and complements the cultural attractions with a sporting option.
