Muránska Lehota lies in the valley of the Lehotský potok stream. The Cesta Márie Széchy hiking trail runs through the village, connecting the castles of Fiľakovo and Muráň. An entrance point to the national park in the centre of the village of Muráň can be reached in 30 minutes.
Trails and Nature
The cadastral area of Muránska Lehota lies in the protected zone of Muránska planina National Park. The Cesta Márie Széchy trail is associated with the legend of Muránska Venuša. The trail therefore represents not only a connection between historical sites, but also a specifically named cultural reference within the landscape.
Two ponds in Muránska Lehota are managed by the Slovak Anglers Association. Fishing competitions are held at the ponds once a year. In winter, the ponds serve as natural ice rinks for skating. You can consider the different connections separately and focus your attention on one aspect at a time. Which connection you make first is up to you; several perspectives can coexist side by side.
The different connections can be considered independently and weighted according to your own interests. Your personal order remains open; one approach does not have to replace another.
Landscape
The mountains Ostrica, Šarkanica, Hajnáš and Veľká Stožka are located in the surroundings of Muránska Lehota. These four names add individual mountains in the vicinity of the village to the landscape.
You can take in the landscape through individual impressions and place the relationships mentioned above into separate contexts. This leaves room to compare different focal points without condensing them into a single image.
Culture and Tradition
The bell is considered one of the oldest bells in Gemer. It bears the year 1677 and the name of the bell founder Michael Kupec.
The local dialect is called “Ľahockuo”. The folklore group FS Ľahota performs at municipal celebrations as well as at regional events and competitions. Its repertoire includes more than 60 folk songs. Language, club life and musical repertoire thus stand alongside one another as distinct forms of local culture.
The antique collection is open to everyone and can be viewed by anyone who visits the municipal office. One municipal event has become an annual tradition and includes, in particular, a football tournament for the mayor’s cup at the sports field. Thus, the cultural references mentioned range from historical objects and language to music and a regularly recurring municipal event.
The cultural themes each stand on their own and can be read in different orders. You can set individual priorities without bringing the remaining aspects together into a common statement. Your own weighting remains open.
