Holiday apartment in Muránska Huta: National Park and circular hike

Together with its cadastral area, Muránska Huta belongs to Muránska planina National Park. The national park has existed since 23 September 1997.

Nature

The landscape takes on a variety of forms. Bobačka Cave is a national natural monument and has more than five kilometres of underground passages with rich sinter formations. Water flows from the cave for about 500 metres through the forest and forms a waterfall approximately three metres high beside the road.

Another natural attraction is the Hutniansky vodopád waterfall. It is located on the state road from Červená Skala to Muráň, immediately behind the Muránska Huta bus stop. This waterfall can be reached by bus from Muráň or Červená Skala. Thus, the natural attractions include underground passages, a watercourse flowing through the forest and a waterfall at a clearly designated location beside the road.

Experiences

From Muránska Huta, hiking and cycling tours into a national park are possible. A circular hike begins and ends in Muránska Huta. The circular hike from Muránska Huta to Muránsky hrad Castle is 12 km long, ascends 565 m in elevation and takes approximately four hours. It begins at Bobačka Waterfall, also called Hutnícky vodopád, above the village.

History

The local history includes two clearly dated details. Muránska Huta was established in 1652 together with a glassworks. In the 1860s, a hammer mill called “klinčiareň” operated in Muránska Huta, producing nails for shingles. The historical traces mentioned therefore range from the establishment of the settlement to a specialised craft business in the 19th century.
